Hospital Services Supervisor

Under the direction of the Manufacturing and Distribution Manager, the Hospital Services Supervisor (HSS) is responsible for performing, documenting and reviewing all tasks associated with the inventorying and distribution of blood components while managing staff, coordinating daily workflow, scheduling transportation of products and ensuring accurate execution of tasks and provision of excellent customer service.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and promotes Blood Bank of Hawaii’s organizational goals and values.
  • Coordinates and ensures proper and timely execution of all tasks within the Hospital Services area.
  • Hires employees, develops performance standards and provides supervision and on-going assessment of performance, disciplinary action as required and annual reviews.
  • Coordinates the staffing schedule to ensure that adequate staff are available for efficient operation of the department.
  • Ensures blood component shipments are delivered safely and on time to hospital customers.
  • Handles and investigates customer complaints.
  • Works with leadership to ensure that blood inventory levels are sufficient to meet community need, products are properly stored, transported and rotated to minimize waste.
  • Monitors and enforces staff compliance with safety policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and potential hazards related to employee and/or product safety.
  • Performs required record review for the Hospital Services area.
  • Ensures that preventive maintenance and quality control programs for equipment, processes and blood products are properly executed and documented and leads investigation and actions taken when failures occur.
  • Coordinates plasma fractionator shipments.
  • Ensures proper shipment of unlicensed components outside the state of Hawaii.
  • Manages and maintains all supplies and equipment needed within Hospital Services.
  • Ensures manual billing is complete and correct.
  • Participates in the development and revision of hospital services, processes, procedures and validation protocols.
  • Coordinates and ensures proper execution of validation protocols for Hospital Services equipment and processes
  • Investigates and documents deviations performing root cause analysis as necessary and implements effective corrective and preventive actions
  • Assists in the training of Hospital Services staff as needed.
  • Prepares statistical reports and performs workload, performance and quality monitoring tasks as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • High School graduate required. Bachelor’s degree preferred..
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations as they relate to blood center operations preferred.


  • One (1) year of experience working in healthcare, account management, distribution or blood center.
  • One (1) year of supervisor experience preferred.

  • Highly developed skills in human relations with proven ability to relate to individuals in a positive manner and build and maintain solid working relationships. Good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work
  • with and service diverse individuals and provide excellent customer service.
  • Good organizational and time management skills with ability to maintain a professional, positive attitude and composure under time constraints.
  • Detail oriented, accurate with good follow-through.
  • Excellent oral, reading and written communication skills with the ability to give detailed information or instructions, ask questions that can be easily understood, and read, comprehend and apply information contained in written
  • documents. Clear and legible handwriting.
  • Goal-oriented self-starter with ability to work independently and as part of a team to productively collaborate and meet goals/objectives.
  • Ability to understand regulatory and procedural requirements and apply it to company and department operations
  • Computer literate, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, ability to learn BBH software applications.
