Donor Recruitment Specialist

The Blood Bank of Hawaii is seeking enthusiastic and friendly candidates for the Donor Recruitment Specialist position to join our Recruitment team!!

The candidate is responsible for:

    • Calls, appoints, and schedules donors to donate blood.
    • Calling prospective blood donors via telephone, using call lists as provided, e-mailed requests or accepts in-coming calls from prospective donors and schedules appointments accordingly.
    • Interviewing s donors over the telephone to assess if donor meets Blood Bank of Hawaii eligibility requirements.
    • Verbally obtains information from donor, verifies identification and critical donor information needed to assure donor and patient safety.  Gathers personal data to be used to create and update donor records.  Ensures that data collected over the telephone is accurately and correctly updated on the donor's record in the donor database.
    • Schedules donor appointments, ensuring that the donor meets the eligibility requirements, and enters data into computer system.
    • Acknowledges, reassures and thanks donors following guidelines.
    • Meets established donor recruitment appointment goal for appointments and show rate with minimal customer complaints (under established guidelines).
    • Ensures that calls are done courteously and professionally.  Responds to donor needs and questions in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
    • Accurately updates and maintains donor profile information in the donor database.
    • Maintains positive working relationships with staff, donors, and the public and providing courteous customer service internally and externally, exercising good interpersonal skills.
    • Follows procedures for any new donor recruitment programs that are developed and implemented to ensure an increased donor base and an adequate blood supply.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required


  • Type 45 words per minute and PC literate.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.  Able to read, write and speak English.
  • Good listening skills, with ability to perceive caller’s reception to the request to donate.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work with and service diverse individuals and provide excellent customer service.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational and time management skills with ability to maintain composure and professionalism when working under time constraints.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to productively collaborate and meet goals/objectives.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to productively collaborate, meet goals/objectives and work well with others to ensure efficient and smooth operation.


Drug testing and physical examination required for all positions.
