Collections Specialist-Blood Services

The Collections Specialist (CS) reports to the Collections Director and screens donors for eligibility to donate blood and performs phlebotomy in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) while providing excellent customer service, encouraging donors to return to donate and continuing to support the community’s blood program.

  • Draws blood and blood samples following SOP, which includes inspection, preparation, venipuncture, identification of bags and tubes and the accurate recording of required data
  • Responsible for the care of the donor throughout the entire donation process
  • Instructs and explains the donation process and post-donation instructions to donors.  
  • Provides customer service to volunteer donors during the collection process and encourages repeat donations
  • Working with the team on set-up and break-down of mobile drives or opening/closing duties at fixed sites
  • Maintain Qualifty assurance standards and work in regulatory environment
  • Driving vehicle (e.g. cargo or passenger vans) to transport staff, supplies and equipment to mobile sites
  • 365-day operation with varied work schedules



  • Phlebotomy experience; 1 year experience working as a phlebotomist preferred


  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate from a phlebotomy program or other healthcare programs (e.g. Medical Assistant, Nurse Aide or EMT programs) preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • National phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Current CPR certification from a provider following American Heart Association requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License; clean driving abstract
